West Frankfort Car Show Benefits Coach Kill Cancer Fund

WEST FRANKFORT -- A new car show is bringing in some pretty cool vehicles and a lot of charitable help for folks battling cancer. The cars were part of the Kroger Amateur Car Show held in West Frankfort on Sunday. The event benefits the Coach Kill Cancer Fund.

Former SIU football coach Jerry Kill was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2005. He started the fund to help needy families and individuals battling cancer and childhood diseases. It's the first year organizers held the car show, and they say they're happy with the turnout.

"We decided to have a car show this year. At this point we have about 65 cars entered. For our first year that's a great number," says Andrew McRoy with the Coach Kill Cancer Fund. "I was hoping for 30. We've doubled that so that's awesome."

The cars in Sunday's show competed for prizes and recognition. Organizers plan to do the show again next year and hope it will become one of the charity's biggest fundraisers.
